How much to get head gasket done?

Postby rob_arthur » Wed Oct 28, 2009 11:25 pm

right guys,

time to admit defeat, my car needs to have its head gasket replaced. i have tried everything else to try and cure the loss of water problem but no such luck.

how much am i going to be looking at to get it done? i might as well get the cambelt, pump and tensioners done at the same time to.

also can you guys recommend places within the localish area.

also just thinking how much is it to port and polish a head? could get that done at the same time. more power :D

thanks rob

Yeah kinda key to advice.

i.e. VR headgasket vs vauxhall headgasket, you might get a difference in quotes.

They're pretty involved mate, what makes you think the head gaskets gone on it anyway? Ali at unit18 would defo be able to look after you with this either way though.

well the fact it is losing water everyday. used to be only after a spirited drive but it does it whatever style of driving now. i have changed the expansion tank, the cap, the water pump, thermostat and it still loses water. no leaks or splits in pipes or around the engine itself. so as far as i can tell that is the only explanation.

a lot of pd115's on the ukmivs.net forum are experiencing similar problems with similar mileage and it has turned out to be head gasket or porrous head.

heater matrix isnt leaking either.

i have another head to replce my current one. if its porrous. just need to get it sorted asap.

im in buckingham tomorrow so im going to visit AWS and see what they can do.

where are Unit 18? are they in mk?

Ouch that sounds like a right fucker. Unit 18 are in Easton Maudit to the North of Milton Keynes, they're pretty close to santa pod. You could also try AutoWerks in Stony Stratford too, they're a bit closer to you.

yeah might do that. being in bicester its either aws or aps in brackley. i get most of my work i cant do myself done there. but its going to be a tad expensive getting it done there. i just want my car sorted so it can be remapped again and have the 230bhp im craving for.

thanks for the info on the garages ill check them out tomorrow hopefully.
