What do these stronger sumps consist of? steel or ally based sump?

Because you can get a reinforced ally sump for 20v but its still ally so still weak!

ive heard all Total vag do is get a 'Tuf' plate which is just strong plastic?

They are reinforced aluminium ones as you cannot weld steel to alloy they are designed to prevent cracking if you hit anything. If you hit anything hard enough anything breaks tbh. Just thought they were a good idea for 1.8t's running low as looking at the standard sump they are only about 3mm thick least with this you got some chance.

And my metal undertray/sump guard saved me when i hit that bit of pipe in the tunnel on the way to players :)

Ally sumps are such a design fault! Worst idea VW have had.
